I am a writer, a teacher, an urban vagabond, and currently, a barista. I earned a BA in Writing from Mount Union College, spent a year in a grad program at Mercyhurst College, two years working for the federal government, two years at Chatham University where I earned my MFA in poetry, while serving with AmeriCorps, and then I just stayed in Pittsburgh. Living in Pittsburgh has taught me a lot about myself and about what I want out of life. I discovered that I would like to work with teenagers, something I never even thought about before. My long term goal is to start a branch of the non-profit Writer’s Corps in Pittsburgh. Writer’s Corps teaches creative writing to teens on the community level—e.g. in community centers, homeless shelters, juvenille detention facilities, etc. In the meantime, I am reading, writing, trying to get more publications, and always learning. If I ever stop learning I’ll be dead. But then again, I’ve never been dead that I recall, so I might keep on learning even then. My interested are varied and range widely, as evident in this blog. I like literature, philosophy, music, history, pop culture, technology, design, and on and on. I have learned to live more cheaply, but I have two vices which I sometimes can’t resist spending money on– books and picture frames. There are two things in the world that always bring a smile to my face: jazz flute and tiny dogs wearing sweaters and booties. I play clarinet and my dogs barely tolerate the occasional bandana, so I don’t know how those things came to be. I loved the jazz flute moments in Anchor Man, but I felt like that before then. Now I am rambling so I’ll sign off for now. Below is one of those quizzy thingies if you want to know more about moi.
